In my early thrifting days I would spend a Saturday morning with a black coffee, a small amount of cash in my pocket and a plan to hit 2-3 shops in search of treasure. My focus in those days was to find vintage…60’s coats that still felt current, silk scarves with wild prints and the occasional dress or blouse that still had some life in it. My favorite city to thrift in was Los Angeles when Dr. Hubs was doing a fellowship in aesthetic surgery. I had 6 glorious months of driving all over looking for treasure.We even went to a few flea markets together and found some fun lamps (that we still have!) and other little decor goodies. Some of those early thrifting finds aren’t in my closet anymore, but boy it was fun finding them.

7 reasons why I’m thrifty

Totally shocking right? A plastic surgeons wife who (gasp) is thrifty. Well it comes out in certain areas of our lives…in others I have no issues paying for quality and convenience. This is the first blog of a series about thriftiness. It’s something people value but seem to rarely talk about. I on the other hand am never afraid to say I bought something at consignment or scored it at a Goodwill years ago.  Trust me I’m a big believer in supporting retail businesses and investing in quality pieces. What am I doing?

I had a quick but inspiring coffee date yesterday with a lovely entrepreneurial lady. Our similarities were astounding. She’s about my age, expecting her second baby and has a hubs in medicine. But she asked me a question few have asked me… ‘what was my goal with Real Plastic Wife?’ I actually heard a similar question from Dr. Hubs earlier this week. His was more along the lines of ‘what are you trying to say?’

Well I honestly ask myself that daily. What am I doing here? What is my purpose? Am I saying anything that actually means something to someone? Or am I just going to be one of those bloggers that posts pretty pictures and gains thousands of followers? If you know me at all yet it’s not about followers or pretty pictures. It’s about being REAL.
